The attempt to stop that vote and keep Trump as POTUS was an attempt at “a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government”. The DEFINITION of a “coup”.

Those people weren’t organized enough to do a coup. There was no doubt a riot, and a lot of the rioters weren’t the smartest cats in the alley, but it wasn’t a coup. A coup requires military support. It isn’t a bunch of people with the equivalence of pitch forks breaking some windows and strolling through a building.
