what is wrong with my L5

O.k. I had 1 12" L5 with the audiobahn A8000t going to it. I would say prolly 600-700rms. Everything was great for the first week, and then i would turn it down and notice a noise comming from this sub but only with the volume at 5-10 and then above that it just bumps and sounds like always. I took it out and hooked it up to my multimeter and it said 4omh on each set of terminals. Does this mean that it is not blown or did i burn the voice coils enough to cause some noise at low volumes and it gets louder than that noise when i turn it up? Any help?

i can push the sub in and hear what sounds like something rubbing against something else.

Probably blew it.

Get a DMM, check resistance of the coils.

It might be on it's way out and the coils are still in working condition but part of the coil is seperating and barely rubbing on part of the motor.

yeah well suprisingly i wasnt upset as bad as i thought i would be because i think i had enough with SPL becuase that was too loud for my daily driving i annoyed too many people including myself eventually. I currently have 1 12" L7 in some box made by kicker like 3.7cubes vented and am really gunna start for more SQ.

Would the L7 sound better in a sealed box and just not be as loud or go as low? Or would it sound worse than what i have right now.

Stay with ported. With the right enclosure and port tuning you can make that L'7 sound great. I;m very pleased with my 2 L7's 65% spl & 35% SQ. Atleast I think so. Thats what really matters, right? Find you a good box builder (moe) have him build you one or use one of his designs on the box builder stickey and go from there. You won't be disapointed.
