What is the best speaker wire?

I'm planning to install a component set in my car. The instructions recommend at least 18 gauge wire. I'm running a 600x4 watt amp to power so each set would get about 75 watts. Should i just use 18 gauge?

hi mate,

the best cable to use is OFC. ( Oxygen Free Cable ) Its Really good. when i fitted ofc i could hear the difference! try and get all ofc, ie power cable, speaker cable... everything!

the manual for your amp etc should tell u what gauge wire 2 use.. or just ask the guy in the shop!

that main think you need to realize that wire is wire so long as it is OFC and has a good strand count...good luck

thats like saying "paint is paint as long as its a high gloss and red" haha just kidding... name brand means nothing as long as (like you said) its OFC and high strand count. so pay $4 a foot or $0.75 a foot and you could end up with the exact same wire -scott

Anything between the amp and the speaker will decrease the damping factor. And increase distortion. So use thick wire and keep it as short as you can. I just ran 12 gauge wire for my mids and It sounded much better, I could hear quit parts of the music that I didn't hear before.

did i buy bad wire? it said SPEAKER WIRE on it, it's not hosue wire
