I really can't believe any of you guys didn't mention the Audison HR100, it was so far superior to anything in its day, it wans't even compared to then modern car amps.

A good amp doesn't have to be just on power alone. I mean power alone i'd probably take one of those new Hifonics XX series amps. But the HR is one crazy amp. I love the A class from Tru. hand built A class amp, nothing like that. Or what about those old ADS amps from the guys up north, no DEI ones. Those things were awesome, some of them were like 8x40 or so and they were underrated.

the best amp depends.....its not as black and white as that.

i would use a different amp for SPL than i would for daily driving

the best daily amp i'd say is the legendary Linear Power 4002 (i think its the 4002, its the one that did 1400RMS+@8ohm (yes thats right, at 8 ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )

then there's stuff like Zapco 9's, Tru Hammers....they are all great amps.

i had a soundstream ega 4220(4x110wrms) it was a nice amp.

but my oldskool art series(ax400,pro art 25) there really sweet.

sure enough not the best but since everyone was throwing out 5kw+ rms amps and no one mentioned this i decided it quite fit ;P

But as someone said the best amp is the amp that you can afford without selling your first born child.

Over on the Decware forums Dr. Sleep designed a tube amp named the "Hurricane". It was unique in the sense that it was 100% noise free tube amp. Noise free to the point where an oscope read nothing but pure golden silence out of it. It gets my vote.

dollar per watt it takes 1500 amps of curent to it is a monster and that 10,000 rms is at 2ohms and they will burp at 1 with no problem they have 4 1/0 inputs for power and groud. they are monsters

best amp would be a audio art 100 hc. it could do 1000++ watts at 1 ohm bridged power a component set (under rated 50 x 2) wasnt too expensive either especially compaired to its competion. (based on power basic performance price versatility and no bells or whistles) it was cheaper than the smallest orion hcca amp and performed close to the biggest.

some of the best amps were made back in the days.. ppi art, monolithic, zapco, us amps, orion, soundstream....imo. nowadays they just don't make amps like they use to.
