1. is it ok to run the gnd from the amp directly to the negative terminal of the battery, if its ok, can i use the second battery in the trunk or is it better to run it directly to the main battery up front.

2. what is the best wire guage to use for maximum current transfer and less resistance. is the biggest wire i can get good for this ? ( also for subs )

3. what else should i do to install a good electrical wire system ?

I would honestly not run it to the negative of the battery without replacing the battery negative ground wire to something bigger than it is.

The most popular wire is 1/0. This should be sufficient for most applications.

I'm a little different. Some want the minimum for their electrical. Me I change my mind a lot so I want to be able to run anything. I would start with a High output alternator and replace my up front battery. THere's a sticky in the wiring section about the big 3 upgrade. Its is a pretty inexpensive and very worthwhile upgrade to your factory wiring. From there it's wiring and batteries. Depending on what you are trying to run that will vary.

Also where in Chicago are you? I know of a decent place to get wire.
