Well, here are some updates from the weekend. I tried again and now I am mounting the ring inside the door panel. I am also going to glass/bondo the outside and then sand it down.
I also tried a new method (to me anyway) to glass and found it works much much better around contours. I am unsure how sturdy it is, but we shall see. What I did was cut the matting into many tiny pieces and mixed them in the resin before hand. After a while, it dissolves into the resin, add hardener and it is a bit easier to work with. I had a hard time getting it to work another way. After it dries this week, we shall see how successful that is.
