What head unit to get? Under $100.

Hello, I recently purchased four 6x8 infinity 6832cf door speakers for my 2004 ford escape. I'm also looking to purchase a new head unit to go along with the speakers. I'm currently looking to keep the price under $100 as I'm on a low budget. A few brands that have caught my eye so far are jvc, Sony and kenwood. Could I get a few suggestions and/or info to help me with my decision. Thanks.

It's a $100 Headunit with probably less power than his stock. Also the stock is factory EQed for that car and that equipment. I'm pretty sure I know a thing or two. Stop trying to correct me and think about what's going on.
OEM headunits naturally add distortion. Thats why you think an OEM headunit has more bass. Its not because its EQ'd. A factory headunit does around 4-8wrms per speaker in a non premium situation. Any aftermarket headunit thats not Pyle, Boss, Pyramid, etc. will put out more than 8wrms. Any decent aftermarket HU will sound better than OEM. Now whether or not you consider $100 headunit decent is a whole different story.

They actully are EQed. That's what the useless JL clean sweep does. Takes all of it out. EQed or tuned however you want to call it. Some even have a decent T/A built in.

You are dense. The cleansweep is a Line Out Converter that introduces its own EQ and digital processing.

Negative. The clean sweep wipes out the factory EQ and returns it to flat. The DSP one has a few presets.

My buddy that's a JL tech support guy had a very long talk about how it was useless.

Thanks for agreeing. Do you understand how anything works? You cant just plug in an RCA and return a physical device that "EQ's" and make it disappear. Your telling me the JL Cleansweep can be installed in any OEM situation and completely wipe out a factory EQ no matter what the settings? That is pretty magical. Devices like this introduce their own processing, they dont remove it. Pretty hard to remove an EQ that doesnt exist. Any bassbox, clean sweep, or device that claims to boost bass in songs that dont have strong baselines all they do is introduce distortion. Distortion is not the same as EQ.

What I can tell you is he uses one in his car. Factory deck. I don't know how it did it but he read the signal level RTA and it showed flat. So yes it took the factory EQ and wiped it out. It overrides the factory EQ. It did not look like it did pre clean sweep. So yes I'm saying the stock deck had a pre programmed EQ. Get off my nuts

I'd stay clear of Clarion. They've gone down hill since their hay day. I vote Kenwood. Useful features and the least returns of all the brands I sell at work. Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, Sony.

You get many product failures for Pioneer HUs? Any model in specific from Pioneer range?

I'm about to purchase the DEH-80PRS so just wondering : P...

So your JL buddy said the clean sweep is useless but you say it works? Interesting.

I would disagree with steering clear. It's pretty well known that for the money, the cz702 is one of the best performing HUs on the market, but I will agree it can be confusing to operate. I'm barely adequate at car audio, but I still need a lot of info to try and work with the band eq that's offered with the HU. Also, it's much more geared for running active as well, I've found it very restrictive with HPF and LPF when running passive. If anyone has tips on setting the eq, please pm me!!

Someone on DIYMA is selling a barely used CZ702 for $100 shipped, btw.

There are a couple of options. You can use a marine bt unit. They come in the size of a hockey puck and can mount anywhere. This is the marine unit.

There are bluetooth amplifiers. You can just use your phone or an I Pod as the music source and not touch the radio.
