Agreed. There are some ridiculous bands out there like Nile and Pig Destroyer that just sound absoulutely stupid.

as for the diff types of metal, its true. I have a really hard time distinquishing DEATH/BLACK metal, and Glam/Hair metal i dunno, but you can definitely tell the difference between, lets say Melodeath, Progressive Metal, and just normal Death metal.

ya tis true, i label all the metal in my collection "metal". however when someone generalizes about metal, saying its all powerchords, double bass and throaty screaming/growling, or when they say all metal is like slipknot, thats when i bust out the "sub genres"

Ok, In Flames is pretty talanted. Bands like Nile and Crytopsy are not stupid, but play SO fast, and SO tight, that people whom are not familiar with the types of music cannot determine what is going on. And for anyone trying to claim otherwise, why else would the drummer of Cryptopsy have been one of only four drummers worldwide to be invited to a special drumming session at the effing Guggenheim? Additionally, he was on ESPN 2 for a show "Extreme Physical Jobs for Non-Athletes" for the ability of his drumming. The guy is just plain sick. It's cool that you can't tell what's going on in the music, but for the most discerning of ears, you will find and AMAZING degree of talent. Flo Mournier = GOD

Yoshiki from x-japan (old school japanese metal band) is one of my favorite drummers of ALL TIME. In concert hes just Amazing, he also plays the piano. id give my left leg to play the piano like him.

but lol --> i'm not asian, i DO NOT have a myspace or a xanga or any of that other bullshit. my hair is not dyed, i do NOT wear girls pants, i don't have a haircut that involves strands of hair falling in my face, i dont listen to shitty generic bands that rip off styles or sing in generic tones about generic things with fake and incompetent lyrics. .

..i started listening to emo/indie/whatever you want to call it before it was at a stage in its life that involved cross dressing (girls pants) and being a trend whore, so i don't have any desire to follow the trendwhores in their ways.
