What double din to get

I have a 2013 wrangler and am looking to get a new double din. I want siriusxm bluetooth and usb ports. 7 inch screen. I was thinking this Amazon.com: PIONEER AVHX5600BHS In-Dash DVD Player: Electronics

Does anyone have any advice? I dont know if the faceplate is detachable on the 5600. My budget was around 500 but that was before i found out my wiring harness for steering wheel control is 100 bucks, so i am trying to stay around 400. Thanks in advance.

My vote is for the Kenwood just out of personal experience with Pioneer and Kenwood.. I will say the Pioneers are excellent units when they are working.

I dropped my screen size from 7" to 6.1" to go with a Kenwood DDX470 doubledin.. And I absolutely love that decision. The lower screen slightly is because they added analog volume knob, and such controls on the left so you can control the major thing without looking away from the road.

The Kenwood DDX470 has Built in bluetooth, DVD, CD, USB, Pandora built in, Ipod control built in,.. Plays MP3's, Divx.. blah blah.. It is ready for backup camera installs, has ports for Navigation addition, and Has a sirus Radio port/plug (but doesn't come with the aftermarket sirus XM module .. which can be had online for $69 or so).

It's also great because it's about $299 -- Hard to find this many features for that pricetag in a Kenwood. It has 4V pre-outs,.. It takes a lot to match my picky criteria and this unit did so.

I was ready to spend $550 ish on the headunit.. and The fact I found one for over $200 less than I my budget was icing on the cake.

It's worth a look anyway:

Good luck with your search.

I have heard kenwood have problems with bluetooth connectivity. Is this the case with the 470? Like when you exit vehicle then get back in it cuts out

Go with the brand you feel most comfortable with.. That's generally always the best choice,.. If you go with Kenwood and WANT the Pioneer.. don't let us talk you into it.. I was just giving my 2 cents.

As for the Bluetooth connectivity -- The Kenwood DDX470 (with my Iphone 4) connects immediately without any input from me.. and has no issues on that front. I will say it needs a separate "Kenwood" USB to Ipod (to 3.5mm jack) plug you have to buy separately in order to operate the video from your phone through the headunit.. which is a bit annoying and should have been included with the unit.

Pioneers are great.. I just had a bad experience with mine dieing on me with some "lovetaps" to the console at the end of my installation of my system recently. Then read other people on the net having the same issue with Pioneer units hitting potholes and such.. But I'm sure out of every 25,000 units sold only one person has this issue.

The DDX470 most certainly doesn't have a detachable face,.. That's never been something important to me, or even something I wanted.. I like a unit with less moving parts to be honest. Even back in the day when most all the headunits had removable faces by default.. I never took mine off. I understand theft is an issue -- But if someone is going to break into my car to get the headunit they would do it with or with face because my window tint is so dark you can't see what's in it anyways.

I do like that the DDX470 has an "alarm" light that blinks when you are out of your car.. So now I have two red blinking lights of "you mess with this car it's going to be loud" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .. Bottom line if someone is going to steal something they generally try to pick the "Easy" fruit first.. unlocked cars,.. cars with subs, amps and other high end speakers VERY much displayed, etc.

Also, the Kenwood has Pandora connectivity built in -- and it is not working as it should with my unit through bluetooth.. not sure what that is all about,.. but it has a button on the face you touch for "bluetooth" from the phone and anything you have going on your phone comes through your system immediately.

Sounds like the AVH-X5600BHS is exactly what you are after, go for it!

True that, go with whatever you feel comfortable with. I think most of the products these days are pretty well developed by now that you shouldn't have a problem with its bluetooth functionality. I would go with gut feeling because ultimately it's your money to spend. If detachable face plate is a priority, then so be it. Personally I rather have it as one piece so less parts to worry about losing. Don't let us sway you with the one that fits for your needs.
