What does this sound like to you?

Just brought in my 2004 Saturn, everything stock, because the car stereo's volume can't be turned-up -- it practically was only audible when the car was parked and the ignition off. I had four new 6.5" JVC speakers installed for $150 (speakers + labor -- they originally wanted $250, which I couldn't afford) and, after 1 hour+ of labor at a local car stereo shop, the problem persisted.

Any thoughts on what the problem causing the very low sound might be? If it's due to a blown fuse of the amplifier, is installing a new amplifier fuse something a klutz like me could probably do, or should I leave it to a pro?

Speakers wont make output without power. Id imagine the now ones are worse.

What makes you think the new speakers are worse? Based on your reply, do you think the amplifier is the likely cause of the low volume?

If the car has a factory installed amplifier it might not be getting power to turn it on.

Generally speaking aftermarket speakers take a little more power to get loud than factory. I'd say there has to be a problem with the factory amp or head unit. Either will be terribly expensive, probably even out of a junkyard. Your best option may be to buy an aftermarket HU and bypass all factory wiring/amp/etc.

Next time come to the forum before doing any upgrades. You paid way too much for JVC speakers which are bottom of the barrel junk compared to everything else on the market and speaker install is extremely simple and should be done yourself and not in the hands of some whacked out shop that cant even fix a basic simple problem. Troubleshooting requires you yourself to have knowledge of your system or else you'll be wasting money left and right going to hack job shops to repair stuff they have no idea how to repair. You could have gotten something that would have sounded very nice and loud with the money paid.
