what does this sound like...smart ppl only

I'd be skeptical. Most people will answer slowly and act like they're clueless if they're trying to sell something that's jacked up. If it was an easy fix or if the price is absurdly low for what he's selling it would have been sold locally. It may be on eBay for a reason.

but why would he say it plays "ok"??? he has another sub listed and says it plays fine but both at high volumes it cuts off. i mean is he just retarded or what????

this is what he said about the sub in the listing:

Plays OK, but shorts amp out at high volume. In good cosmetic condition just a little silver paint loss (see pics). No physical damage seen on the outside of this subwoofer.

and says this about the other sub...both are dual 2ohm speakers

Plays very well, but if volume is turned up very high - it shorts. In excellent cosmetic condition (see pics). No physical damage seen on the outside of this subwoofer.

im glad the title says "smart people only". i believe the title should apply to the OP as well.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
not saying i am super smart but i dont want someone telling me something when they really dont have a clue. so if you feel as tho u are smart enough to make a very educated guess then please chime in.

Wait, so there is two subs, not one?
dual 2's in a pair can wire as far down as half an ohm.... that would definitely cause most amps to shit themselves
no TWO DIFFERENT listing from the same guy. and he says both subs are blown but the description he gives for both subs is differnet.

I think I found the stuff you're looking at. It looks like he gets the stuff off those auction houses where they sell this stuff by the skid. My brother-in-law bought tons of this stuff for a while and was selling it at flea markets. The stuff was on a skid for a reason and I doubt you'll find too many anomalies where one or two was thrown in that weren't necessarily defective. The prices look good and if you're not worried about the loss then go for it but I would say without a doubt there is something wrong with the sub and not just a case of user error.

this is his latest reply.

Looks like you know much more about subwoofers then me. I have an eclipse radio with jensen amp that I setup for bench testing (I can give you more details if needed, just have to leave house in like 5min). Yes the sub had a loose lead wire and it fell off when I hooked it up to a different amp. (Item revised now)

All of my stuff is from a bulk shipment from Circuit City returns/displays/overstocks. Their gone so have to look for a different supplier next time around.
