its a very low 'highpass filter', used so your sub does not over excurt at extremly low frequencies. if you have a ported box. its a good idea to set it around 10hz lower than the tuning of the box.

if you dont use it, you have a good chance of popping the cone off your sub.

 
IF the setup sounds good as is and you dont really have any other reason to rebuild, then dont. Leave it be, leave the SSF on, your tuning freq is at 35hz and from what you said the SSF is set at 25hz.

Which is fine.
