What does clipping sound like?

Listening to a friends system, it was like really missing out on beats and a strange kinda high pitched sound was coming out just before the beats would stop from the subs. Is this what clipping is? If so guess he better get over to my house cause i finally figured out how to use my DMM. Thanks to all that helped in that process. But thats another story.

On most solid state amps, you know you've reached the clipping threshold when it starts sounding like ***...how's that for a technical explanation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif As the waveform approaches a square wave, the music gets noticeably distorted...it's very noticeable on SS gear, though the motor structure will sometimes mask the audible effects.

from what ive heard with the subs i have, the bass starts sounding like the farting noise u make with ur tongue or close to that. You will basically start hearing it pretty soon as it starts. You also gotta make sure the thing that is sounding like *** is the actual subs and not the trunk tho. Make sure u listen carefully.

crappy equiptment will usually send off hissing noises or just plain static to the subs. Clipping will usually come from a good amp sending TOO much power to a sub that isnt handling it good IIRC. It could also be that the amp is just clipping and the sub could still handle more.

Clipping is an amplifier issue, not a subwoofer one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

that amp should put out more than enough clean power for the subs. I think the problem might not be clipping, but just cheap equipment.
thats kinda what i thought too, but ive been doin a lot of reading on gain setting, clipping, etc for fear of messin up my r. and then i heard his setup and made me think of that. so i figured one of you guys would be able to help me out. thanks by the way

Not sure what it means... but... If I Remember Correctly... you can find more information about it online in useful forums.
very clever, but if you wouldnt have bolded the letters, lol, i may not have gotten it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . It is just too **** late i guess.
