What does a blown sub sound like?

I just got a JL 12w3v2 & e1400D installed on friday and today im playing that shit pretty loud, no louder than i have previously, no destortion, no bottoming out at all. then the sub litterally cuts out.

all its putting out is a little whimper now

im gonna take that shit back to the shop tommarow and have em look at it. ill be furious if i broke that shit already. it really didnt sound like it was playin too loud

anyone got any ideas

I had two blown subs. One wouldn't play at all and wouldn't move in or out? Does your sub's cone atleast go in our out? If not your pretty much screwed. The other sub that I had blown made a little noise, sounded kinda like if you were grilling something like fries or something on a grill but not so loud like you had to be really quiet in the car to hear it but either way you could hear it.

are you sure its coming from the subs? have you checked for any lose screws that might be vobrating in their holes or letting air out?

Do you have a Headunit? If so turn the sub all the way down and see if you still hear the noise.

Pretty sure you blew it. Thats what happened to me but get it checked out either way. Let me know what you find out.

Are you sure it is hooked up correctly? I blew my subs and it didn't do anything....didn't move, didn't vibrate...just got hot and started smoking.

Maybe he has a stock radio that doesn't allow him just to lower the subs. Leave the bass up on your HU (if you have it up) and turn the subwoofer on the HU all the way down.
