What do you think of the hybrid cars? are they worth the $.

i know my ex wifes 03 civic hybrid was awsome on gas.

at the time we got it we were told it would take about 4 years to see the return in it.

the only drawback is when you have to buy batteries for them. hers was like 800 to replace if i remember right. though we never had to.

in her car it was good for 8 years so im sure its still doing great for her

im pretty sure they stopped giving tax breaks for them. and i think the last study i heard said you have to own it 7 yrs before its financially worth buying. if you are concerned about the environment its worth it though.

You may be better off buying an older economy car. They are cheap and get really good mileage. They last forever too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hybrids are a great idea, IMO. How can a vehicle that doesn't lose much in performance and gains a large percentage in mileage NOT be worth the $?
cause alot of them are pretty pricey compared to other economy cars that are great on gas. when they were giving tax breaks for buying them you recouped alot of the extra cost, you dont anymore. hell my 05 civic with apexi exhaust and cold air intake i get 35-40 mpg.....im happy with that.

like stated above a battery for one was 800 bucks. i would imagine the cost to fix other problems would be.

you can get a regular civic or a yaris for about 10,000 less than regular prius or civic hybrids...if your looking for good fuel economy...they get about 10mpg less than the hybrids but a lot less maintance and problems in the future the 10,000 savings would buy a lot of fuel also....

It's been well established that, even w/ the tax incentives they were giving out, it would take nearly a decade of 10,000+ miles/year driving to make up the initial purchase difference compared to a similar non-hybrid vehicle (i.e. Civic Hybrid vs. Civic).

If you well exceed 10,000 miles/year or you are getting it for environmental reasons, I wholeheartedly endorse hybrids. Not so much for your average joe, though.

+1

To determine if a hybrid is good for you, we must know what are you trying to accomplish by buying a hybrid?

1) Save money?

2) Show off to the neighbors?

3) Save the environment?

get an old economy car

if you get a newer hybrid your still going to pay quite a bit

you can get like a 90s festiva and get 40-45mpg and have no car payment of $500 per month

or you can look cool for 20 min in your new hybrid and pay $500 per month
