What do you think about over powering subs?

I realize it depends on the quality of the sub, but what do you think would be going too far over manufacturer recommended specs (Like feeding a 600W RMS sub, 900W from the amp)

I am looking at feeding a sub 950W @ 2 ohms and wanna make sure i dont blow a sub by giving it too much juice

I would go with over vs under on power if your pushing the sub hard with just a 600wx1 amp and you start pushing it harder by jacking the knobs on the HU now your clipping it but if your over the rms(950x1 amp) and your push it a little harder from the HU it will at least be clean power.

If your smart and know what your doing why not... not im not suggesting feeding a type r 2000 watts.. just stating that most people don't have a lot of headroom and think all 1000 watt amps do 1000 watts and clip their subs to high hell..

Ahh well i was thinking of going with a Fi SSD(800W)/ AudioQue SDC2.5(600W)/ DC Level 3 (600W) do you think it would be fine feeding these 950W ?

Even if you were giving the subs a real and constant 900, which you almost certainly aren't, i would bet each one of those subs could take it with out any problems
ahh alright, well im going to be using the amp in my signature

I give my audioque sdc2.5's 10's 1000 watts each.
Clamped?

Remember guys, just because you hook a 1000 watt amp to a speaker does not mean you are feeding the speaker 1000 watts. Its like the person above that said sure its fine to over power your sub as long as you dont go crazy with the gain or volume knob. Its like saying sure you can give them 1000 watts, so long as you dont really give them 1000 watts. Or the person above who suggests underpowering is more dangerous. No, not understanding what your gains are, what they are for, and how to set them correctly is dangerous.

You can hook a 1000 watt amp up to a 10 watt speaker and never blow the speaker, if you throttle your gain and volume settings down to the point the amp never puts out more than 10 watts. But you need to consider this when thinking about telling someone 'sure its cool, I have 1000 watts on mine'.

I dont mean to single you out slappin, for all I know you have clamped your output to verify it.
