hey guys ive built a few boxes for some people and i guess word is getting around and everyone wants me to build them a box. which is awesome because it will be good practice, good money, and i enjoy doing it. but anyways i was just wondering what a good price is for a box? i was thinking this. let me know what yall think

labor- ?? i donno yall tell me

parts( mdf, ports if aeros, carpet, etc)

if they dont have a box plan 20 extra?

that sound alright? what would yall charge for labor on a box? i know it depends on the box but just a wedge or normal square box. nothin crazy.

and if they want me to install the whole thing like wiring, headunit and all that.

thanks,

-eric

If you're not doing it "professionally", as in through a business and all? I'd say between $50 and $100 for the box depending on how big and tricky the design is, and about $50 for installation.

Um it is a bit more than that. You will sell yourself short. You need to know what your costs are and how much material you will need for various size enclosures. If you want to save buy a 25lb bucket of screws (Around $60) these will last for a long time. I want to say I got about 40 boxes on a 25lb bucket. Much better than buying a 1lb box for $6 and lasts about two boxes. One of your largest expences is going to be glue for your carpet. Call up 3M and they can get you a 5gallon tub of glue. I like to use foam fast 74 (Holds much better than Super 77) Not I would set up an account with a lumber yard so you can get MDF for almost half the cost as you would pay in hardware stores. The only thing is most yards will give you a great price (around $16-$18 a sheet) but you have to order 20 or more to get this price. So, with that being said if you have the place to store all of it then that is going to be your best bet. I used to order 50sheets at a time.

dang. haha im not planning on doing that many boxes. but if i ever do that is good info. thanks man. anyone have an idea of how much they would charge for labor

Well, that all boils down to what do you feel is worth your time and effort for building the box. Do remember if you go by material costs plus labor then you be over charging for smaller enclosures that only need say a 1/4 sheet of MDF. Like I said even if you still go and buy single sheets at a time you will need to see how much material you will need for a box.

yea true. i just feel people will think they will be getting a better deal if i just tell them how much labor is and then i can say go buy the materials

I think the last one should be 50% off if they help ha

I will be watching when you do the blowthrough and helping so I can learn:) unless thats a problem:(

10% extra if they watch 25% extra if they ask questions

50% extra if they help

ya you better off buying it your self, and just giving them full price. up front.
agreed. i have set prices for slot ported rectangle boxes. otherwise, i guess. a rectangle box can be put together in 3-4 hours. angles, fiberglass, kerfs, etc. easily double working hours.
