what do judges look for when scoring for an SQ setup?

considering my current setup most likely wont win any SPL comps (two 10" eclipse sw8102's @ 1,100 watts between the two) what kind of tuning would i be looking for to compete in the sound quality competitions? im still working on tuning my front stage. i took out my Kicker SS65.2 comps and replaced them with the eclipse comps that are in my sig. everything is eclipse, except for the sub amp which ill most likely just go the bandwagon route and get a brutus amp, give it 1,100 watts to the subs, sealed. what is it they look for in terms of sound quality? any videos of comps during an SQ run? id like to see some info, videos, pictures of past SQ comp winners. until i get some more money for an electrical upgrade, i wont be competing SPL. (thinking about doing a 15" HD3 when its time to get loud). thanks for any info.

Check out the IASCA Rules for a very good starting point. I don't usually post much here, but I was wandering through, trying to find some options for a sub in my install when I came acrossed this post.

Recently I've been doing some reading and flirting with the idea of actually entering a competition, when my install is finished of course, but that's a good place to start. Scroll down a ways in the link and look for the Sound Quality Scoring section. That breaks it down exactly, for IASCA at least.

Staging is a huge thing. They will play alot of songs where u have to pinpoint where a certain instrument is being played by just listening to the song. Like if the drummer is off to the very back corner against a wall on the left side. It should be pretty obvious when u listen to the song. Most systems u wont be able to tell at all. Then there's other things like listening to see if the sound seems like its right in the middle, not below/above the listener. There's alot of things and most of the judges will still have a personal taste in choices of EQing and the way they like the sound.

If you don't have at least a decent Equalizer then I suggest looking into purchasing one so u can tune everything. BTW ur probably gonna end up having to turn ur sub's down alot, since they look for more of a balance of all ranges of frequencies. Most average people like the bass way up loud -_-

Also I dont know if the rules are still the same, but i remember rookies (Speakers in stock locations) are tested by the RTA and not a judge sitting in the car. the RTA looks to see if all frequencies are at a flat setting when they play a pink noise track. Of course this could've been changed since it was actually harder to do good on the RTA as opposed to a judge listening to the car.

Dude, i don't mean to be an ***, but it sounds like you either don't know what an sq car sounds like, or you're not ready for it. It takes alot of work to get a car ready for an sq comp as it's not easy. The best thing you can do for now is read up on that Iasca handbook. Again, sorry if i sound like an ***. But it seems like a lot of people on here don't know what a true sq car is and throw the term around loosely. I'm no expert as i have a lot to learn myself, but definitely read up and do some planning.
