What causes box rise?

Old Thread with lots of good info on it. Been discussed many times... but impedance is the dynamic resistance generally attributed to the AC current in the coil.

From my experience, small boxes cause more impedance rise, but also have a higher SPL peak.

One aspect to SPL tuning is finding a compromise between the two variables, to drop the impedance, to maximize amp power, while allowing the sub to efficiently produce a frequency.
