what causes: bottoming out?

Different enclosure or less power.
I was talking about that guy's subs being cheap JBL's, not yours.

I know. I was just remarking on the situation. So a smaller enclosure will let me use more power correct or no? After everything is said and done, im aware it is still all install oriented as well. i guess i just have to keep retrying...

I always thought bottoming out ment the box was to small or to big for the subs parameters. Have you talked to atomic about the subs specs for box size ported or sealed.

Usually a smaller enclosure will increase the sub's mechanical power handling. Are you running it within recommended specs?

makes me want to consider a smaller box. got 3 ID oem 10's and the specs call for .6-.9 cubes per sub, i had it built on the high end.....im assuming better control, punchier if i go smaller?

i never consulted george about recommended box sizes, just built from my own knowledge and did searches on different forums on what boxes people had good results with. I guess tomorrow i will give George a call and try out a new box design.

Thanks for all the help again everyone that has had input.

This is a sealed box? You want it smaller? Just add some 2x4's or what ever to the inside to reduce the internal volume of your current box. That would be alot easier than rebuilding the whole box, unless you are way off on your original size.

its ported, and before the added 2x4s its ~ 4.1-4.2 cu ft after all displacements. If the subs require ~2.75-3.00 cu ft for a pair of airspace, then I might as well just make a different box.

Too much power for the given enclosure/frequency/tuning
x2; it happens because of too much power which causes the sub to reach its mechanical limits (ie, bottom out).

A subwoofer's enclosure, quality of the signal, and other factors have an influence upon power handling.

I have bottomed subs out to complete failure, breaking the glue joint of the cone away from the former. Vibrated one of my remote level controls out of adjustment and pop went my subs.

too much power for the box your using

either turn down the gain until it goes away, or use a ssf, if you already are, raise its frequency more
