what causes subs to bottom out? tinsel slap? box tuning?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
the ID's i installed have woven tinsels and i bottomed out while tuning today. nasty nasty sound. first time i had ever heard it, scared the shit out of me lolsorry for the question. i am pushing my apx's a pretty good amount right now. it seems like when i turn it up pretty loud it just sounds lke it bottoms out. im unsure if it's due to tinsel slap or not. I'm just use to having woven tinsel leads and not worrying about this issue.
i did it today with a sealed box? i just turned the SSF up a little and the gain down a smidge and problem solved.the coil former slamming into the back plate. in other words, when the sub moves too far, and yes, it can be caused by playing below box tuning.
I appreciate the info on what the actual definition is. What are ways to solve this? does it vary from sub to sub? such as an individual sub to individual sub EVEN if it is the same type of sub?the coil former slamming into the back plate. in other words, when the sub moves too far, and yes, it can be caused by playing below box tuning.

honestly i cant even tell you that what i did was bottoming out i know it was a nasty noise, and i noticed the surround was like starting to crease (if that makes sense) so im assuming it was bottoming out.I appreciate the info on what the actual definition is. SRim23, I appreciate your insight as well. Ive just never had an issue with bottoming out OR tinsel slap, so I'm just unsure which one it is.
Yes..that was in my mind as well. I don't insult people on here for asking VALID questions. This IMO, is a valid question on my part, and I don't expect to get bad feedback, such as that, for asking a valid question.Don't forget bottom of the line subs.
