Im brand new to car audio and was wondering if someone could school me on Ohms
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=midgetthanks thats a pretty good site but im still confused on what the difference is between a lets say a 4 Ohm subwoofer and a 2 Ohm subwoofer
Edit: and what are midgets
Simplistically, it is easier for current to flow when the sub has 2 ohm coils vrs 4 ohm coils. What does that mean for you? Well look at some basic electrical equations... Voltage = Current * Resistance and Power = Voltage*Current. Do some algebra and you can see that your amplifier theoretically outputs twice the power when the resistance is cut in half. So you ask, why not reduce the resistance until it is very, very low and allows your amplifier to produce unholy amounts of power? Because at some point the components in your amplifier can no longer handle the power and burn up. Hope that helps you out a little.thanks thats a pretty good site but im still confused on what the difference is between a lets say a 4 Ohm subwoofer and a 2 Ohm subwoofer
get used to sarcasm, this forum is full of it.If that guy was joking about midgets and actually meaning little people than i feel really dumb i thought he was being serious.
Is it better to have a subwoofer with more or less Ohms
