What are Ohms

I could see that there might be no better or worse because it depends on the situation so what are some advantages/disadvantages of 2ohm and 4ohm

ok. if u have a lower ohm woofer taking more energy from the amp is it possible to overwork the amp and if so would a higher amount of ohms would prevent it.

most amps put out more power the lower the impedance

example...

100 watts at 4 ohms

200 watts at 2 ohms

400 watts at 1 ohm

so you can get more power for your money if you have a sub that can be wired into 2 or 1 ohm

BUT

not all amps are stable at 2 or 1 ohms, so having a sub whose impedance is 2 or 1 ohms wont work and could ruin the amp

And to clue you into some more sarcasm and a jab at a particular forum member who got it wrong first, Ohm is NOT short for omega, it's the last name of the person who defined Ohm's law laying out the relationship between current, voltage and resistance. The resistance unit was named for him. Georg Simon Ohm. The symbol omega was convenient to denote Ohms but the names did not come from one anotoher.

Ohms is like friction (resistance), but it's an electrical term rather than mechanical.
