what are lexan windows?????

Lexan windows are used in dB machines that need extreme durability for their windows. They are supposedly unbreakable when they are thick enough. Check out any extreme competitor and they will most likely have Lexan windows.

lexan windows are a cheaper version of acrylic. its a plexi type product, very durable. some race cars use lexan in their windows.
Mmmm Hmmm

They are very similar to plexi, but, I haven't been able to see a comparison on it, would be neat to see...

Lexan is the DuPont trademark name for their line of polycarbonate sheet.

Plexiglas (there is only one "s") is the DuPont trademark name for their line of acrylic sheet.

The two have the same density. Lexan is generally MUCH more expensive. They have different uses. Polycarbonate is shatter proof and much more resistant to cracking than acrylic. It will start to show fatigue lines if allowed to flex a lot. Becuase of its impact resistant properties, many sunglasses and almost all safety glasses have polycarbonate lenses. The major drawback to polycarbonate compared to acrylic, other than cost is appearance. Both materials scratch rather easily, but the scratch can be polished out of acrylic. The polycarbonate piece is ruined. The edges of the acrylic can be finished (sanded smooth and polished) to be just as clear as the main surfaces. Acrylic can be heated and shaped (thermoplastic) while polycarbonate is only formable at the time of manufacture (thermoset).

hrm... funny, the acrylic here is more expensive.
That is odd actually. Check here online metals Difference is $5 a square foot at .5" thickness.

o, and plexiglass has two "s" in the sheet i looked at last night.
Then it wasn't the real thing...I was wrong about it being a DuPont trademark. It is a trademark of the Roehm company and it is spelled Plexiglas and Lexan is actually a General Electric trademark. My bad.
