I'm going to get a set of Alpine Coaxial's (6.5's) and they come with crossovers. What is it that these crossovers do. Lemme know, im a newbie at this stuff.
crossovers basically split the signal from the HU/amp into different frequencies, the high ones for the tweeter and the lower ones for the speaker, i think thats what they do, correct me if im wrong
The steeper the slope the less strain on the drivers. Midrange can be crossed higher or tweeter can be crossed lower than on shallower slope. Overall you get a cleaner sound.
There's also an effect in phase shift in different slopes. For example, 6db/oct slope will have a 90 degrees shift, 12db/oct 180 shift. This phase shift will affect the absolute phase.
