I recently decided to redo the sound system in my 2003 mitsubishi galant since one of my front speakers no longer works and my current stereo didn't have all the auxiliary options I needed. I had a low budget so I got most of my equipment second hand. All my speakers are Sony Xplods and the Stereo head unit is a VR3 by roadmaster. Here are the model numbers and specs of the equipment.
Stereo Head Unit:
Roadmaster VR3 Plug 'n Play Stereo
Peak power: 180W
16w per channel @ 4 ohms
S/N > 60 dbA ref 1w Output @ 14.4 VDC
Front speakers:
Sony Xplod 6.5" XS-R1642
peak power: 270w
RMS: 50 W
Impedance: 4
sensitivity: 93 dB/W/m
Rear Speakers:
Sony Xplod 6"x9" XS-R6941
peak power: 240w (some sources say only 160)
RMS: 50w
Impedance: 4 ohms
sensitivity: 92 dB/W/m
Subwoofers:
Sony Xplod 10" XS-L100P5W
peak power: 1100w
RMS: 300w
Impedance: 4 ohms
sensitivity: 88 dB/W/m
Based on information I've read I will need at least a 600w amp to cover the subwoofers. I know the Xplod series isn't top of the line but It was cheap and appeared to perform great compared to my stock system and it fit my budget.
So ym questions are :
1. What is the minimum I can get away with for an amp in terms of Watts, number of channels and Ohms etc... ?
2. Should I get an Sony Xplod Amplifier to match the rest of the system, if not what would you suggest ?
3. Are there any problems you could foresee with my current system line up ?
