what am i doing wrong?

I can't get the multitester to read the voltage on my amps to set the gain correctly. am i doing something wrong?

set the headunit to the loudest personal listening volume

disconnect positive from speaker channel being tested

insert multitester probes

the only reading i get is on 200 and it jumps all over the place

what am i doing wrong?

You have to play a tone. Different tones(aka music) has different voltage levels at the amp.

Thats a crude explanation, but in short, play a tone it will fix all.

i'll try testing it with tones instead of music.

it's new right out of the package. it reads the power at 13.6/13.9

Why the hell were you playing your speakers with the tone, you prob used a 0db tone too huh?

actually i wasn't. the speaker wire just touched the connection. i'm an ***. lovely $300 lesson.
