what a burning coil sound like?

sla is the source level adjustment. and turning it up made the sub and speakers louder. but if i keep the sla at 0 then my bass drowns out the music.
so i set my gains with the sla up. my gain ended up at the half way mark on my amp where it is marked "nominal" i mean i heard that type-r's can take a beating...and my amp only does 500rms (and the sub is rated at 500rms) so i dont really see how i could ruin it? but could i?
Thats there to make a seemless patch in between radio and cd I believe. Either way if you were sending it a clipped signal you could burn a coil.

but if it truly was burning voice coils wouldnt the smell be gone after the truck was sitting for 4 hours? and it does smell alot like wood, but with some other odd smell (not much though) mixed in...which may just be the caulk, wood glue (even though both are dry) or just the fact that my sub is new and is breaking in still.

ive had my car smell like burn't coils for days

just realized i said "sounds" instead of "smells" haha. i wish there was a way i could tell if i was sending a clipped signal. i mean the only setting i changed after setting the gain is the custom eq. could this change cause clipped signals? and this is at like 40-45 volume out of 46(which is where i set my gain at)

run a test tone at the freqency you have bosoted the highest through the sub.. slowly turn up the volume.. when the sub starts to sound "funny" its clipping.

this isnt 100% accurate but works rather well, also i would recommend a -3db test tone, since most music is -3db

^^alright well thats good to know....its not a bad smell...more like the smell of wood. but im not sure why i am just smellin it now...i mean when i get in my suv i can smell it pretty well, but this may just be becasue i folded my seat down earlier today and the smell drifted throughout the suv lol?
