Wattage increase, boost decrease

I have two 10" subs that can handle 500 watts rms a piece. I got screwed into buying a crap amp and it turns out that I am only running about 28 watts rms to each sub. I also have the bass boost switch on and it says +18db. Obviously, with the combination of the two, the sound *****, but it's decently loud. I just got an amp that can safely give each sub around 450 watts rms, but the boost only goes up to +10db. I am aware that it can cause damage to run the boost all the way, but which setup would be louder, and by how much?

You don't want to use any boost. It sounds like you were clipping your signal. Which amp do you have now? It is important to set your gains as best you can, some say a digital multi meter, others will say an oscope is better. Also no bass boost, there are some on here who may be able to help, might even find someone local to you. Good luck dude. I just realized I am fairly close to you, in Trussville. Shoot me a pm.

I have a lanzar amp (VCT 2010) which I bought because I couldn't afford a better one at the time, but will my subs be as loud with 450 watts rms instead of 28 watts each, but without the bass boost?

Bass boost is ****, don't use it. Especially if you don't know how to set your gains correctly. You're going to fry your amp and subs.

Grab a DMM (or an oscilloscope if you have access to one) and follow the appropriate guide for setting your gain/input sensitivity.

It would help us if you listed your old amp, your subs, and how you have them wired up.

So would 450 watts with 5db bass boost (half) be louder than 28 watts with 18db bass boost (current setup)? I'm just trying to figure out what to expect when I switch amplifiers from a junk lanzar vector to a hifonics brx1600.1d

Also, there is a remote that comes with it that has a knob that goes from labels minimum to maximum. It says boost on it, so I'm guessing its bass boost, but I've also read that it is used for gain. Which one is the control knob used for
