Hello everyone.

I recently got a new car, and older car......I didn't know it had a leak in the trunk area.

Before any really hard rain came I threw a system in it.

I hadn't mounted my amp to anything yet. I just had it laying on the floor of the trunk next to the sub box. Which happened to be the drip spot for this leak.

Any ways....I was driving one day bumpin....and then all of the sudden my bass cut out/shut off.......then like 10 mins later it turned back on for like 2 minutes....then it shut off again.......then it never came back on for the rest of my trip....

So, when I finally got to where I was going I popped the trunk to check the wire connections guessing something had just come loose possibly......

Well, when I popped the trunk I found something else......WATER SPOTS ALL OVER MY AMP....leaving evidence that there was water on and in my amp.

I had the amp for only 2 weeks and bought it brand new....I would hate for this to have happened and there is no way to fix it you know......thats like $250 out the window....

As soon as I got home i took the amp out of my car and I set it in the house for a couple days hoping it would just dry out and then start working again....

Nope....a few days later I went and hooked it back up and got nothing....still off...

So I pulled out the two fuses on the side to check them and they are perfectly fine.....

Is there something else I can do to try to fix this or something....PLEASE HELP......

A buddy of mine told me that there may be a fuse INSIDE the amp that may have burn out when the water met the electric......I didn't know for sure so I didn't open the amp or n e thing to check for it.....

I have a HiFonics BXi1608D.....

Please let me know what I should do......if there is even any thing to do....

THANKS!

-Jordan

I called the company Maxxonics ..... they said ordinarily they would of honored the 1 year manufactures warranty but because I didn't buy it from a AUTHORIZED DEALER they cannot do anything for me.......

I can't return it...I bought it on eBay....and the lady from maxxonics said that anyone on ebay is NOT a authorized dealer.

They only have ONE authorized online dealer.... onlinecarstereo.com

how do I check my capacitor(s) ??

the fact that you just layed your amp on your trunk floor without mounting it to anything just makes me laugh. what if you had to slam your brakes or hit a really bad bump? if it wasnt the water, something else would of broken the amp.

sucks about the water leak, since thats not your fault but you dont seem to be too careful with things you pay good money for.

i had no where else to put it......

and actually I had screwed one end of the amp into the floor carpet....which was strong enough to keep it from sliding around....It's not like I am playing bumper cars and had my sh!it if flying around....

I have a big OLD Benz.....it doesn't go fast......my amp is not broken because of how I mounted it....having one screw into the carpet I didn't consider it "mounted"....u no..

and I do care VERY much about the stuff I pay my hard earned money for. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

I am careful..... I CAN'T HELP THE FACT THAT MY AMP WAS WHERE THERE WAS A LEAK I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT.

I agree with jman since you don't have a warranty to void you can feel better about cracking it open. If you don't see a fuse then it's prolly fried you can try and find someone who repairs amplifiers in your area.

yeah, i blew an amp, well my dad did, it was an old alpine, and with his experience he was able to trace the problem to a mosfet on the board with a dmm, he just pulled the number off it and found one online, a quick resolder and it was fixed...

12 dollars to solve a 160 dollar amp...

find someone that can fix it, luckily i didn't have to pay cause my dad could do it...so find someone like that...

I had the same problem with Pioneer.. They said NO one from EBAY is a Authorized dealer of theres.. So remeber that if u want to get something from ebay... Oh try contacting the people u got if from they usally have a warranty for like 30 days... Or before that see if they havd SQUARE TRADE option and buy a warranty then just report it next week and u should be all good to go
