Want as good or better than Bose system for Expedition

Greetings. This is my first post on this site so I'm looking for any advice I can get.

I recently traded in my '99 Maxima which had a Bose system for a '01 Expedition which has a factory Mack system which sounds worse to me. I want to upgrade to something that sounds at least as good as the Bose with a budget of $500-$600. If anyone can recommend some good receivers and/or speakers, I'd appreciate it.

TO get a substantial improvement on some of the Bose systems with only $500-600 is going to be tough. You can probably use your stock head unit with a line out convertor saving some money there. You'll want an amp, good front speakers and a sub. The amp doesn't need to be anything special, but it will need to make pretty good power. The front speakers are the most important thing determining the overall sound and I would budget $200 or more just for them. Figure $200 for the amp and that leaves $200 for the sub, box and install accessories. Personally I would figure out a way to increase the budget

not to hard to get better than bose, but man ur budget really sucks.

If you wanted i could sell you my clas basket magnum and my jbl 1200.1 for 360+shippin.

Pm me if interested

OK most bose systems use dual cone speakers...thats thier nice WARM sound. The ford factory MACH system uses cheap speakers and cheap amps. Its not that great at all and its sonic reproduction leaves a lot to be desired. Your budget of 500 bucks basically buys you some lower cost replacement speakers for the doors..2 pair...say Infinity or Polk...but that wouldnt even be the good stuff. If you want really good sound you better raise your budget about 750-1200 bucks.

The speakers in the Bose systems are crap. The dual cone is to help the higher freq reproduction but they still don't really reach the upper registers. The reason they sound decent is the amount of equalization applied and hardwired in. The EQ curve is unique to the vehicle and to the speakers. It utilizes a lot of psychoacoustic principles as well to make the sound more pleasing. Not more accurate but pleasing.

My wife's new car has one of the best Bose systems out (new G35) and it is still far from true high fidelity. Better than the Infinity system in the Liberty she had but still not on par with a custom system. She likes it but she's not that picky.

1.Go to walmart....find the cheapest h/u, sub, speakers+amp you can find...

2.Go to the flea-market...find the cheapest h/u, sub, speakers+amp you can find...

Go out to the dumpster...find the cheapest h/u, sub, speakers+amp you can find...

Any of these options will pwn a bose system.
