W7 killer?

Originally posted by GSteg overpriced? find me another sub for $550 that will be comparable to the W7. not many out there has the same price tag as the 12W7, well maybe the beyond audio inhuman, but the W7 will kill it in SQ anyways. one of the best engineered subwoofer has to have a price tag on it, and it ain't suppose to be pretty. people always compare the JL's retail price to other companie's sales price..why? why not compare sales price to sales price? are people doing that just to widen the gap some more? it doesn't make sense. i don't believe there is any better for the price (SQ). better value? yes. better for the price? no.

heck..for the price of the W7, i know i can go out and buy 457834957 thump speakers and out SPL the W7's. you can always buy X amount of X speakers that will beat that one single Y speaker.
BRAHMA

Originally posted by TheGrimReaperKD By the way, there are subs that can do just as well/maybe better as a W7, given the right install.
neither of your posts had anything to do with his question....try reading it again.

anyways, there are subs out there that will out do the w7 in bang for your buck, most reputably the brahma, with no regaurd for price i would choose the w7.....but again price is up there, if you got the money why not get the extra edge.

well if the w7 is so dominat where are all the sq trophies from finals? the shop i go to does jl and yes they sound nice but hardly the best i ever heard..and im talking about cars that win trophes at national usac and iasca shows not lil league crap (not meaning as an insult but just to the degree im talking about) gimme a solobaric or an idmax and apply it propperly i think you would just scratch your head in awe...the numbers most of you guys make your judgments from mean very little until you actually apply it to a system

What edge?
Don't give me this "SQ" shit, theres also another thing called "SPL", know what it is?

Yes, the W7 does have the edge on SQ, but the Brahma, XXX, etc. has the edge on SPL.

And read what Audiolife just said, I think he said it all.

i agree that the xxx smokes it spl, personally i have heard both a brahma and a w7 with the same power and i think the w7 wins in both spl and sq....personnally i have a w7 because i could care less about huge spl because it is a daily driver system....no doubt there is better out there for the money, but few come close in quality.

i dont see the point in paying 300$ more for a sub thats quieter than the brahma, but sounds just a little better... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

personally i dont think it is quieter...i think its actully louder....but even at that, people like me are not out for loudness, we just have different goals, i want mine to sound great and reasonably loud levels, i dont need 150+db's going through my car while im driving to and from work, i just dont need that....and the price difference is not that high, a 12w7 can be had for 490 brand new...i think a 12 brahma is something like 350 (not quite sure of that one).....either way if you have the money you buy what suits you the best....thats what suits some people the best.

ok was the brahma in the EXACT same box in the EXACT same place in the EXACT same car getting the EXACT amount of power from the EXACTamp the JL was? because if it was'nt, you can't confidentely (sp i know) say that its louder than the brahma.

Originally posted by nswartley the PG's Ti Elites arent cheap either....at all. they are about the same price actually....
Actually on purecaraudio they are around $470, (the PG Ti Elites) and are supposed to have better ability than the W7,

I am impressed so much I am thinking about going with them instead of the Crystal CMPX2, but yes it is a W7 killer and cheaper, hehehehehehe, gotta love it

Lets get this straight...the W7 is a very, very good woofer that JL put a lot of time ad research in. The Brahma and the XBL^2 technology is also revolutionary in its form. Now...to the point. I have seen many a Brahma and W7 install (Loyd's W7/Ranger design being the loudest) and all of them are very impressive. Now you ask...which gets louder...well...many of you have seen Scottie Johnson's Brahma SPL install. That install is turning 70s on the old termpro mic. 9 of them I believe. You don't see many extreme vehicles with W7s in them...at all. The Brahma, IMO can take some abuse and get **** loud. Now...on the other hand...in Street installs (regular/everyday) you tend to see a lot of W7 installs..many of which just get nasty loud. For Street...in my experience, the W7 is louder (given that I have seen 2x as many W7 installs) with some exceptions(Marshall Joyner). Bottom line being, both are amazing subs and I'd run either one in any given SPL install...
