might be a retarded question but... can i use 2 different subs with different power ratings of the same diameter in the same vehicle off separate amps?

for example, a 10w6 and a 10w7(anything similar, Type R & X etc. etc.) different boxes or in different chambers atleast

or will they cancel each other out??

you could sell those on ebay for a bunch of money, then buy 2 of the same sub for cheaper that are just as good........ thats what I'd do. or run the W7 by itself.

Lol... i wasnt planning on using JL it was just an example. i didnt think it should be done either so just makin sure.

the 15 should play fine up until you need it. you could use 8's for midbass though

while we're on the topic, I have a single JL 13tw5, distant future plans were going to be to add another JL and have one fat 15 or 18". Are you saying this wouldn't work? (under any condition). What about vice versa, 2 13tw5's and some 8"?

I would say just get one good woofer such as the FiQ , Mag, etc that plays both low but also plays the higher punchier frequencies with accuracy

Low frequency response is not directly related to cone area. A 15" driver in a small sealed box could give you the "punchier" bass sound and not have much low frequency extension. You could also make 8s have a very low frequency response (rivaling that of larger diameter drivers) and a very laid back or mellow sound. It's all in the driver and enclosure design, not cone area.

Putting two different speakers in the same environment playing the same frequency range will almost always leave you with a sound that could have been better off using two of the same type drivers. This doesn't mean the sound will "cancel out" like people so love to say, but rather that the wave interaction could have positive effects or negative effects. This could leave your frequency response with dips or peaks. The alignment of each driver will also affect the final result of the sound as the alignment will affect the phase of the sound and two different alignments could have two very different phase responses. It could be louder or it might not but what is undeniable is that your overall quality of sound will be reduced.
