VW Jetta (a4) owners. Q on box size

I have a trusty old 2000 Jetta (which is the A4 body) TDI. What I would like to know if the A4 Jetta owners have come up with the proper box size compared to specs. I have noticed that with the seats up the Jetta does not allow too much base out of the trunk (not like my A3 Golf did). I am not a boomer and run a pair of a/d/s/ S10's for SQ. I am getting a McIntosh MCC302 and would like to build a box with 4 a/d/s/ S10's. If I had a dollar for every box I have built for my Golf and my S-10 pickup, I would be a rich man. Needless to say, I would rather not spend too much time building box after box trying to get the right size for the car with the subs I am using.

So, if you guys could chime in and let me know if you found a bigger box was better or smaller then what was spec'd and for what freq. I am sticking with sealed chambers for each sub as the S10's do not like porting too much and are not made for booming.

If there are any old die hard a/d/s/ fans of old that could suggest what would be best for 4-S10's, that would work for me too.

for those that want to bash me for my old school set-up. well go ahead i guess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. For the few sound off's I have been in, I always finished with a top in the SQ. That is all that matters to me and infact, the only reason I ever entered any comps.

McIntosh MX406 (going to try DEHP880PRS for shizatsngiggles)

a/d/s/ 642ix x-over

a/d/s/ PQ20 front (200X2)

a/d/s/ PQ10 rear (80X2)

Mcintosh MCC302 for subs

Alphasonik PMA150HCA for rear midbass

a/d/s/ 336ix fronts

a/d/s/ 320is rears (back deck)

a/d/s/ S-10 (x4)

a/d/s/ S-8 rear midbass (rear doors)

I have a jetta with the same body style, I have a 5.37 cu ft box with 2 12's in the trunk... 36"wide 15"tall 21" deep. After building several boxes I found that, that box is the biggest you can get in there.

i did a type r box for a mk3 that was about 3 cubes port+subs firing back and it got plenty loud.

if it was my jetta. id cut a hole in the rear deck for a pair of 12's IB and call it a day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey azbass, was wondering when you where going to reply. Do you have a chip in your car yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The only problem I have is the effing spare. I live in the middle of nowhere and I would hate to be with out a spare, plus i need room for 4 amps, x-over and cap. I did cut the rear carpet so the equipment can go on the left side of the trunk and then I could remove the sub box.

Now, with 4 a/d/s/ S10's i was thinking of building two seperate boxes which would make it easier to remove or slide forward to get at the spare.

I also need to keep in mind wieght. I drive a TDI and really like the 50mpg I get. adding wieght is not a good thing obvisouly. Is there any marine type board out there that is honeycombed? I will have to check at the local boat builders i guess. We have Burger Boats in Manitowoc which builds 150' custom yachts.

Lastly, with 4-10's they would pretty much have to fire up (or on angles). I will play with the 2-10's I have now and try moving the box facing back once to see what diff that makes as stated by gli guy. I thought about making a box with push pull but did not want to waste the time. maybe I will do it with the box I have now since it will hit the curb anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for the help so far. Still waiting for some old school '80s a/d/s/ guys to chime in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I helped to start UPsolute in the US. I was the number two man for the first 4 years. then an argument ensued over Porsche tuning and i got screwed. When we first started I would get calls saying, "you chipped me years ago...". Um, I am garrett from UPsolute not THE Garrett from GIAC //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I am not with UPsolute anymore.

and back to topic, I also like my bass tight not mushy (hence forth 10" paper cones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ). So i dont know that a bigger box would help unless the trunk size has someting to do with it.

size of cone has nothing really to do with the sound quality and upper frequency extension of a driver. its got to do with a ton more crap than that.

i have a pair of IDQ15's and they hit "tight" like people explain how "10's hit".

it all depends on box volume and driver choice.

what drivers do you currently own?
