I have searched and it seems like a he said she said myth about it being bad to mount your amp on the box. A friend and I were talking and he is weary about it. I have no real eveidence to say it will be okay or not so feel free to elaborate on your vote.

I have my amp mounted to the side of my box. And i have nice stuff. But i also need to mention that my box is 1.5in thick throughout...and i still have the amp mounted on squares of 3/4 mdf so air can flow underneath the amp.

Just about all the installs that I have done, have the amp mounted to the box. Except for my truck which is mounted on the bottom of the jumper seat so it still can be used to sit in; and the Eclipse Spyder which is mounted beside the box cuz there is hardly no room in those trunks for anything.

had my amp mounted on my bos since ive had a system, and ive had some prety loud ones. I think it really depends on the quality of the amp. If its some cheapy lanzar and you have it mounted on the enclosure, it might be risky. But somthing solidly build i wouldnt wry bout it

Unless your box vibtrates a LOT and you have an older amp (usually older amps are more suseptable) you will not harm your amp in any way, shape, or form, by mounting it to the box.

It does make the whole package easier to carry out of your car though.

Most amp manufactuers now augment their build buy hot glueing torroids, large caps or anything inside that might have a problem with stability under extreme stress / shaking. The older amps (now we're talkin 95 and earlier) werent all that great in thinking ahead of what their end users would put their equipment thru. They've got alot better in the last few years, so im sure that will eventually dispell this mith. But im sure someone will always bring the topic up thinknig their being "smart" about it......thats how old wives tales last over centuries //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

That is definitely a good idea about there being room for ventilation under the amp. I didn't think of that myself.
Thanks

Ben
amps are designed to be mounted flush to a surface //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

that's why they have the mounting holes/brackets there.

airflow underneath is not really an issue.

also, most amps are designed to be mounted flat. ie. heat sinks on top of amp.

but as long as there's nothing covering the top of the amp or the vent holes (if there are any) i think you're ok.
