Hello everyone,
I currently use a Sony ES series MD deck running a Sony 210EQ crossover/EQ, and Sony XT40V. I feed a US Coustics and a JBL amplifier. I have 3 LCDs tied to a distro amp, fed from the XT40V. I generally use a "hacked" XBOX with XBMC for music playback. I use it so much, in fact, that I'm removing the Sony deck, sony signal processor and Sony TV module. I plan to install a MTX active crossover, and feed it directly from the XBOX.
I can modifiy the xbox so that there is no startup sound, and XBMC so there are no sounds, and rely on XBMC's volume control. However, I still would like to have a volume control in case I wish to do something outside of XBMC (passengers playing a game).
I'm looking for something similiar to the AudioControl MVC (Master Volume Control), but I do not need but a single set of RCAs. My goal was to mount the xbox in the trunk, and not run the RCA's all the way up to the dash and back. It seems like it could pick up a bunch of noise.
I've looked at a few solutions:
Motorized potentiometer pulled from a stereo or purchased online. This is neat in that I could have a rocker switch up front that moves the volume control in the back. This is good, except quality POTs are expensive.
A chip from Maxim that features a stereo digital potentiometers. It has a rotary encoder input. This is a knob that has two switches that tick-tock back and forth as it's rotated, and adjust the volume. This seems neat. It does not remember the position, it always defaults to mid setting. It's the best solution, other than the fact it's a surface mount chip and will be a challenge to make a board for it.
Are there any other units, similiar to the MVC that are only two channels?
I looked at a bunch of 1/2 din crossover/EQs from companies like PPI, but they all had low pass crossovers only, or some other limitation. Nothing was perfect, so I will use the MTX crossover.
Thoughts?
It's in a 2001 4dr Accord.
