voice coils

The voice coil is a coil of wire inside the speaker that the input source connects to. Electricity flowing through the voice coil creates the magnetic field that causes the speaker to move.

The voice coil is the "load" on an amplifier, and is measured in ohms. Having dual voice coils allows the installation more flexibility in choosing how to match the speakers to the amp.

A passive crossover is a set of coils and / or capacitors that have fixed frequency characteristics. Advantage is price and size and no 12 volt power is required. An active crossover uses electronic circuitry and has the advantage of being adjustable.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.
