they mean its 4 layers of wire wrapped around the former.
so 2 layers per coil for a DVC sub......right?

And an 8 layer would be 4 layers per coil for a DVC sub...................right????

Your going to end up with the same amount of wire using a dvc 4 layer and a svc 4 layer. If not you'd have drastically different cooling abilities.

Yes. At the end of the day, your thermal power handling will have more to do with the volume of metal in the coil.... though 8 layer coils are typically a lot bigger than 4.... of course the tradeoff on 8 layer and 4" coils is the larger gap needed and more mass. Since the strength of a magnetic field is an inverse squared to the distance tighter gaps give a big edge on motor force.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.

It mostly comes down to weight. You can have a super lightweight cone, soft suspension and aluminum coil on a sub and you pretty much get a pro...
