Viper remote start problem

i had a viper 791xv remote start/alarm installed on my 2000 x-cab silverado, and the remote starter doesnt work every time. it was bought brand new off of ebay and installed by a professional. the installer programmed the alarm to attempt to start for up to 4 seconds but when i press the button, it only tries for about .5 seconds. my truck doesnt start in under .5 seconds, and the installer thinks that i might have a defective brain. every once in a while it will start in 1 try, but other times it will try 3 times and then give up. any other suggestions besides the brain (everything else on the alarm works great). and also, any ideas on what i should do about the warranty, as i bought the alarm off of ebay? does dei have to have a reciept to do any kind of warranty work. thanks a bunch

Oh yeah, if you bought it from ebay....................Sorry, the warranty doesn't exist. They pretty strict about it. I don't believe that it's a bad brain though. Who did the work?

your immobilizier bypass module is probably not set up correctly. and did you even buy one?

It sounds like a tach problem.

The crank time setting only works if the unit is programmed for voltage sense engine checking, as opposed to tach sense. Is the tach wire hooked up, and has it been programmed?

If you set it for voltage sense, and your crank time is set for 4 seconds, you're going to be buying a new starter soon.

alright, first of all the work was done by a professional installer at a local alarm/audio shop, yes i bought the bypass module model number 555L, and yes the tach wire is hooked up and programmed. (if by programmed you mean that it "learned the tach"). i'm trying to get in touch with the guy that sold it to me through ebay in hopes that he bought it from an authorized dealer and still has the receipt for the warranty. any suggestions still welcome

oh and when i say crank time i mean the maximum amount of time that it will try to start before giving up. if the tach jumps up to idle then it stops trying to start, so no worries with the starter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it sounds like a tach problem 2 me... maybe he got the wrong tach wire... clip it and change it to voltage sense... and set it for .8 seconds crank time and see how that works 4 ya
