the amp is about 2 weeks old. the other day while i was on my lunch break at work the protection light came on my amp. i live in dallas and its hot as f*** right now.

i was using 8 ga ground wire for the ground when this happended. today i upgraded the ground to 4 ga.

the amp is a refurb btw.

do you guys think it was the heat that caused this or the small ground wire??

or maybe its a bunk amp. idk it only happended once.

i have a 90 day warrenty on the amp.

any input would be great.

the gains were set with a dmm. right now its only pushing out 350 rms at 4ohm. im hoping it was just the heat that caused this. anyone have any experience with refurb amps in general??

yea i think it was like 105 degrees the day it shutt off. and my car had been sitting in a parking lot for 4 hours.

whats weird to me is my lunch is only 30 min and the amp was only on for about 10 min all together.

oh and btw its just sitting in my trunk. nothing around it. should have plenty of ventilation. but then again its been very hot here the last month

I have a Viper 1200 and I was wondering about a fan for it to. Where can you get these at and can I put it in myself? Can you run a Viper on a 1/2ohm for daily driving or is that alittle risky and this might be a stupid question but hwo to you know how many ohms the amp is running on?

Less than 1 ohm for a Viper for daily driving = not a good idea.

As for the fan, just buy a computer fan. Very easy to install, its just a 12v source and a ground. Mount it somewhere around the amp, near a heat sink is a good spot.

Sort of off topic, but did you buy the amp from ikesound? When I bought my Viper 2500 from them, there was a paper in there stating that the warranty was actually six months, not the three ike advertised. Might want to look at your paperwork again.
