Very very sad evening.

Well I officially have had my worst bow season ever.

At 8:15 2 does come in. One gets broadside at 25 yards. I draw back, let her hit the opening and release. My arrow hits a limb I was almost certain I would have cleared and deflects badly.. First miss of the season. I get down at 10:30 and began the search for the deer I shot yesterday evening. never found any more blood or the deer.

Fail.

why shoot a doe period? thats ****ed.
For meat and to keep the ratio in check. Our buck to doe ratio in Mississippi is rather skewed and that makes it harder to maintain trophy quality bucks. I try to kill 2-3 does a year to match the number of bucks I kill. And usually I obtain this with a bow so I don't have to worry about it with a gun.

If we didn't kill does, there would be a ridiculous amount of does to a smaller amount of bucks, therefore making it harder to kill mature bucks. During the rut, the bucks would hardly have to travel to find does to breed.

and I'm all for the killing of deer

Bucks, does, and fawns should all be destroyed. They are a worthless pest that cause over a million car accidents each year and raise car insurance for everyone.

I waited 30 minutes before I even got down to look at my arrow. I had a complete pass through and plenty of blood, and 90% of the time when you get a completely pass through with that much frothy red blood, your deer is down QUICK.

This was that other 10% of the time.

Gotta kill the does or you'll end up overrun. Deer are thick around here, I noticed in one run up to Raleigh and back last week at least 7 dead deer on the highway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Sucks, man.

Well atleast you did that right. A lot of people dont realize that the deer will keep walking if you track it right after, have to give it time to go lay down, takes a hell of a lot less time and energy. Dogs probably wouldnt hurt either if you hunt that much...

I don't know what people have against hunting. Honestly, you all eat burgers and steak, but act like it's more humane to smack a cow on the head with a sledge hammer than to kill a deer when the deer at least has a chance to get away. And if you think the deer don't know when it's hunting season, you haven't gone hunting very often. They sure know it up here. **** things go almost nocturnal during gun season, and most of the time you won't see anything unless you drive them out of hiding.

Also, I don't know about bow season, but up here during gun season, you HAVE to get a doe before you can use your buck tag in most places.

I have thought about investing in a good bloodtrailing breed of dog and paying for someone to train it. I don't ever need a dog during gun season (primarily b/c I shoot a .300WSM), but a dog could be a valuable asset to me in bow season.

And if you make a good shot with a bow (double lung or heart), the deer is RARELY going over a 100 yards, and the majority of the time it doesn't make it that far.
