Very Unhappy Person

We found the problem... it was the ground. The thing it was attached to was split in half and extremely loose. My buddy just tapped the wire and it shut my whole system down.

Now that we fixed that, I'm getting this crappy whining noise when my speakers are turned all the way down. When I rev my engine, the whine gets louder. I noticed that one of the cylinders that the right RCA cable plugs into is very loose. Could that be it?

how much is the comp amp's gain actually turned up. usually the whining is from gain too high, rcas too close to power wire, faulty rcas.....any or all of them could be problem.

i can tell you right now that when i pulled one of my rca cables out of my amp, it took the connected out with it... (the cylinder metal thing with a hole that you plug the rca into)

might need to replace the amp

well general rule of thumb is to twist as you pull, never pull the wire always make sure to pull holding the connector. but ive done that too and the amp played just fine. what ur hearing is alternator noise. either gain is too high, power wire is too close to your rca's or you just need to ground your rca's. theres a sticky on how to do it if turning the gain down, or moving your rca's away from your power wire dont work.

The thing is... it is loose now and I kinda warped the perfect circle a bit when trying to get it unstuck. I don't know if it clips in or what but it has hooks for it.

It is the female connect part.

lol Been there. Don't panic just carefully make it round again and carefully slide bothe the cable and that shiney metal round piece back on the rca terminal. It should b fine.

We all got to fight Alt whine at some time or another. I'd invest in some nice shielded rca cables to start with and go from there. I've never gotten rid of alt whine by fixin just one thing. Better cables help cut it down, not wiring into the factory harness will help, not using factory ground can help, etc...

So it could just be a wire issue? Hmm...
I took it to Autozone and they tested my battery for me. They said the battery is doing great and they said the alternator is fine as well. This was without the car on btw. That means the battery and alt are not dying, but they may be underpowered. What do you guys suggest? My install shop is charging me around 400 bucks for battery, fuses, and install.

Is there a website where I can get a higher output alt for a good price? It has to fit a 2002 Dodge Neon SXT. I'd hope it would be no higher than 250, but that may be pushing it. Would it be enough or would I need a new battery too?

.
How would you check the alt with the car off?

I dont think they checked it at all.

Take it back to the shop and make then re-do your ground and then calim the alt whine just showed up when they fix it for 3 grand fuuck you better make them fix it.
