There's two different ways to go about it.

1. Get several alternators to hold the voltage at 14.4v.

2. Get several batteries to hold the voltage at 12.8v.

#1 is obviously the best choice since higher voltage = better for your amps + more power produced. However, alternators are very expensive and only produce power when the car is running (and full power at 2k rpm). Batteries on the other hand will give you a solid reserve of current to draw from, whether the car is on or off. Batteries can continue to put out current even when there is a lot of it (which is why their voltage slightly drops). When an alternator can no longer keep up with current, however, there is no backup for it. It's up to the batteries to put out the rest of the power.

An obvious middle ground for these two would be to get a good reserve of batteries such that you can play with the car off and not have the voltage drop below mid-high 12's, and then get a good sized alternator that can charge them up in a reasonable amount of time. If you have 4 large 100 AH batts and a small stock alt with only a few dozen amps of current to charge them with, they won't ever be charged.

TL;DR the alt is fine to get but I would focus on getting more batts after that instead of a second alt

 
Hey i got a 80amp alt and im running around 1600 and my volts dnt go below 11.4-5after playing full tilt for 20min. I think its because i did the big 3 from xs power all 0 gauge
