Using Ring radiators in caraudio?

The XT25s?

Great tweet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The SS RR is quite nice, too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I've run the XT25's and the SPX17 tweets, both are ring radiators. When you get them on-axis they can sound VERY nice and have plenty of output. If you can't get them on-axis I'd look at other tweeters as it makes a HUGE diff in output/clarity.

x6 to the on axis part.

I have the Polk SR6500 comp set and I believe the tweeters are based of the XT25. On axis is a must, I had mine in the a-pillars firing directly accross (works good for many people, with other tweeters) but just didn't have it for me, imaging was good, but missing much of the top end information and not nearly as much output.

If you can get them on axis, then go for it, should be very happy.

What's meant by on axis?
I feel stupid asking that.
Essentially on axis means that the speaker is aimed at the listeners ears, while off axis is just the opposite obviously.

Here my tweeter is mounted roughly on axis, while the mid down in the door is off axis

I am currently testing a set of Ring Radiators for a High End company that will be left nameless... I installed them directly on axis and sound very very very good... one of the smoothest tweeters I have ever listened to... output is still good when playing around (moving head to different angles) but you do notice a drop in higher fz as you move more off axis....Im actually sad that I have to send them back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Im looking on madisound for 4ohm tweeters for my install and I can across some of the vifa ring radiators. I was wondering if they can be used in CA applications or if I should just use a car tweeter
So you came across them, or you were directed to them by someone who specifically recommended them to you for exactly this purpose? Did you forget already?

My SR tweeters are aimed ~10* off-axis relative to the listener. The upper frequencies sound slightly attenuated, compared to on-axis, but I wouldn't call it a night and day difference. It's certainly easy to modify with a PEQ, if one wishes. In my install, the tonal balance benefits from the effect (I'm guessing) due to reflections that tend to emphasize upper-mids/lower-treble.
