Using Loudness

Ok guys Ive been doing some reading about loudness and what it is used for. I was wondering is it ok to use loudness on my DEH-P6900UB??? I mostly like to listen to my music at low levels but the bass would always be lacking at those levels so I turned this feature on. Ive also read on here that some expensive headunits have the loudness feature roll off as you turn the volume up...My headunit was kinda expensive to me so I was wondering does it have this feature???

A true loudness control will employ a fletcher-muinson type set of EQ curves based on volume. If it's just a fixed EQ regardless of volume then it might be good at low listening levels, ok at moderate levels and overbearing at higfher levels.

How can i find out if my HU does this type of EQ system????
Turn loudness to "low" and turn the volume up a fair bit. Then turn loudness off. Is the difference minimal? Then turn on loudness again, but this time at a low listening volume. Turn loudness off. Is the difference much more obvious?

If you answered "yes" to those questions, it adjusts itself based on volume. My $100 Pioneer had it - pretty sure yours does too.

all loudness does is boost signal. You can tune your amps to play more "bass" at lower volumes, at the risk of sending clipped signal at higher volumes.

Loudness is a sort of feature to simply avoid that. For example, set your gains to be played at high volume output and do not use loudness, but then when at lower volume (where the "bass" lacks), loudness is there to boost the signal to increase output in such situations.

Loudness is safe, as long as you know how to use it.

Cool thanks will try that when I go outside today. Would it be better just to install my bass remote??? I really didnt want to install it but if it can keep things safe I would rather use it. How does the bass remote work?? Does it override my HU and cause the bass to be completely controlled through it?

It depends on how you use it.

It doesnt matter how you control signal, as long as you know how to control it. From bass control knobs to loudness to the sub level on your headunit, all any of that does is boost signal, increasing driver output. As long as you know how to set your gains and manage your system so you dont clip your equipment, you can use any of those options
