Using different tweeters with a component set?

I have a set of boston pro60s 4 ohm that I want to use. The tweeter is a little small so I want to switch it out for the image dynaimcs nx30, also 4 ohm. Would this work? What other info would I need to know if it would work?

i had 1 set of pioneer rev comps ( used the tweeter & x-over) in wich i mated to a 6.5 alpine type r midbass....i tried everything imaginable using all midbass's, tweets, x-overs, ect....i found that to sound the best ( mixing sets)......so i'll say yes you can run them, i ran mine for quite some time

You need to be sure that the Image Dynamics tweeter will work well with the crossover point and slope of the Boston Acoustics crossover. If the xover point is too low, or the slope is too shallow, you risk damaging the Image Dynamics tweeter.

And, as Jim said....chances are slim that the BA xover point and slope will provide optimum performance from the Image tweeter.

So why do you think bigger is better? Each tweeter is designed for the xover that they pair them up with. Change on thing and you have parts thrown together instead of a system designed to work together (and it should sound accordingly).

Eh as long as you are educated on how the fequency response slopes intermix, and you are willing to accept the possible peaks/dips in response - go for it.

Ive got Kicker Resolution xovers, and tweeters.....with 1998 Lanzar DC midbasses and it sounds SOOOO much better than my CDT's...and just about every other compoannt set ive ever had.. Plus I have the SQ trophies to back it up.....

I guess the lesson im trying to convey is, you dont always have to play by the rules. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and/or terribly harsh trebble, even from silk dome tweeters. Example? Older RE RE series have a silk dome tweeter but they are harsh due to a 2kHz Xover point, even with a 12 db/octave slope. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
