using burned cd's....

I don't know if it's true, but I'm pretty sure a variable bitrate is the best quality you can get for a song. And 192 is as high as I usually get because above 192 is suposedly too high and will cause some distortion if you listen closely and compare songs to how they are supposed to sound.

CD is 1440, as already mentioned in the thread. VBR is definately NOT the highest quality possible, it uses the least space to produce the best quality in it, but is still lacking a lot of times if the encoding is done poorly.

192 does distort. So does 128, or 256, or 320. Any lossy compression distorts, but the higher the bitrate, the lower the perceivable distortion. Therefore, 320 sounds better than 192 because 320 has less distortion than 192.

if i were you i wouldnt even bother getting a dvd burner right now

mine is just one big pain in the ***

the software is still to complicated and the dvd's too copy right protected to make it worth the investment

Originally posted by mattj ALL my albums in my car are in mp3 format and 99% are 192k...seeing how I do this..i wont download anything that is below that unless i absolutly have to have it, but if i rip myself ill use 256 or 320...

speed isnt an issue when it comes to burning....
speed can be an issue if your computer is slower than the burner your using

i've got a dvd ram drive all programs that work with it are expensive and a pain in the *** and everything is completely copy protected unless you download it online or copy it off and input source

you can copy the dvd's there is a way i dont do it but i know there is away....way to burn anything out there they give us all this burning capabilitly and expect us not to copy and burn cd's music cd's etc what the hell is the matter with them everyone is doing it cant put all of us in jail there is nearly not enough room it will die down where just like when tape recording everyone made a big fuss about it now nuthing just wait a couple more years.....

ur processer speed has nuthing to do with it its all cd burner its more memory and ram then it is processor has hardly anythign at all with burning...

if youve got a slow old computer and a fast cd burner the burner can skip spots if the computer doesnt send it enough information fast enough but newer programs have buffers in them that prevent it all im saying is it can and does happen
