Using A Relay

um. no? maybe, MAYBE a 1amp fuse. and thats a MAYBE!

if you had like 4 amps and a ton of fans, an EQ and a disc changer on the line and its like 16awg, you would need to FUSE it at the HU... but a relay? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

just hook them up... they will turn on using the fusebox (and its relays) thats hooked up to the ignition circut through the CD player (when its on, the amps are on, so therefore the electronics are on)

so just get some nifty solder, and some quick connects. works like a charm.

good luck.

so your saying that i can hook up all of these accessories through the same line?

Just solder them up togther? no fuse no relays?

is so, sounds good!

since when? ive never heard about using relays on a remote wire =\

30 amps? jesus. shouldnt that be much less? its basically a non-breakable fuse- it just switches to off like when you 'blow a fuse' in your home.

use it if you want. its only $2 + s&h. or just get a really low rated fuse.

the relay is there to protect your HU. he's trying to power fans and power up multiple amps off the nominal charge from the remote turn on. remote turn on are designed to provide a brief signal to an accessory, not run fans continuously or power up multiple components. 30A is pretty standard for automotive applications. I would relay off the remote turn on and use 10ga for accessories-overkill, yes-but leaves room for expansion

im looking at the site.. it looks very confusing.

http://www.bcae1.com breaks it down pretty well-just take the time to read through all the details

relays are really pretty straightforward. Just pay attention to details

Tink of a relay like a switch. It uses the small power from your HU to swith on a constant, stable power source like a lead from the battery or your distro block.

I'm kinda paranoid when it comes to fusing so i ran a 10ga fused off the battery to the relay. didn't fuse the remote turn on, but did fuse the accessory leads (fans, amps, neons, etc.) off of the relay because they're smaller than my original 10ga. I used a cheapy small ga fuse block.

yes use a relay... they are simple to hook up... and fuse the power connection ... the 12 volt wire you hook to it... you must use a relay is you are powering multiple components off the head unit's remote wire... i had my hifonics bx1500d... and my hifonics zx4400 powered from the remote wire... but i added a small neon tube over my amps and my sub amp would not come on... but when i unplugged the neon it worked fine... 2 much current draw on that wire.. use a relay and run multiple things... soooo easy

i have no idea HOW scientifically... i just know... your input can be on terminal 85 or 86... whatever you use.. you put the opposite on the other terminal... for example if your input is ground... and you want to turn it into a positive... you put the ground on 85... and put 12 volts on 86... or vice versa... then you go up top to 87... and put whatever you want to go to the other things... so if you want 12 volts to come out... you run a 12 volt wire to the relay... and at the bottom terminal 30... comes out 12 volts and goes to the other things...

this looks helpful

It's been mentioned quite a few times that the Bosch relay's coil has a fairly low resistance (~75 ohms). It has also been suggested that you could use a different relay with significantly more coil resistance so that you draw less current from the remote output of the head unit. The relay below is from Radio Shack. Its stock number is 275-248. It has a coil resistance of ~400 ohms which means that it will draw ~1/5 the amount of current of the Bosch relay. In the following image, the red wire is the fused power source (10A max - even less for small wire like I've used). The blue wire is the remote from the head unit. The black wire goes to ground. The green wire goes to the remote input of the amplifiers and to fans if you have them.

*the important information is hilighted in bold type (by me ^_^)

i might try that- it look just like what you are talking about.
