using a hardrive on a CD player?

I was wondering since some CD players come with a USB input would I be able to use a portable plug and play detachable hardrive for a computer to store music on and retreive it with my car CD player with the USB port? Kinda use the hardrive as a I-Pod or MP3 player in my car.thanks.

yes you can make sure when you get your Hard drive format it to Fat 32 then add your music on there plug and the deck should read it

might want to mention he will need an external power source, thats why i said no

i have a 260gb portable HD its just plug and play no power supply

EDIT :OP you have 2 option if you go with a regular HD you will need a power converter

2 if you get a portable hd it would be plug and play

I tried to connect WD Passport (250GB) to my Pioneer AVH-P4000 and it coud not start-up the HDD(it wanted though), as the USB output power supply from the HU is 0.5A only. And the HDD is rated as 0.55A+. It would be really great if it would work. Are different HU's have more powerful power supply for the USB?

i would not know but it works find with mine . i have a pioneer 690ub
