Using a 1ohm amp at .5ohm...

What exactly will happen if you hook a one ohm stable amp up to subs that are wired at .5ohm? Will it blow the fuses in the amp or do more serious harm?

The amp I'm talking about is a Memphis prd1000.1. It gives 1000W@1ohm and has four 40A fuses.

The subs are idmax D2's.

Assuming the BEST thing that could happen is that it would all work perfectly, what's the worst that could happen? Fry my amp?

most amps will go into protect first, but that won't help you if your system is constantly shutting off on ya. other amps are known to be able to drop below ratings //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

only way to tell for sure is to try it and see //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

at the worst, if youre a moron and the amp has no protect circuit and you ignore the warning signs, it dies. but, if you pay attention and dont push it, and it works, you are in the clear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but im willing to bet it has protection, and in that case, worst thing that can happen is the amp goes into protect, and turns off.

would it be the samething with .7? how about a 1.4?
Think about it.

Your amp is stable at 1 ohm. You are taking a chance running it below one ohm.

As for the question about 1.4, well........1.4 is more than 1, so you would be fine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

If a amp is stable at .5 with 2 ch, can it be stable at .5 when bridged to 1 ch? The amp is a US Amps US-100HC.
According to their stability claim, no...

That would effectively be a .25 ohm load, but that individual amp may be able to handle it, and they conservatively rated it's lowest imp load capabilities. Hey ya never know.

Class a/b at .5 ohm is looking like an electrical nightmare!!!

I'd have to agree with it being a nightmare on the electical. I don't think I'd ever run an A/B at .5 ohm. I can't imagine how hot that amp would be running.
